You may have noticed a few emergency vehicles around the Spring-Ford 9th Grade Center today as members wrapped up the last portion of their Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) class. This program designed for both new and experienced drivers provides invaluable information when operating emergency vehicles of all sizes. EVDT is a two-part course with a lecture portion highlighting vehicle laws, vehicle dynamics, safety systems, pre-trip checklists, and other special considerations. The second, and arguably more fun, portion is the driver competency course. This challenge outlines specific maneuvers each driver should be able to perform in the apparatus. The cones guide the driver through each task and are spaced for the length of the vehicle to provide a challenge for every driver. Operators from Royersford utilized Engine 98, Ladder 98, & 325-3 to navigate the course. RFD members were joined by personnel from Black Rock Volunteer Fire Company, Limerick Fire Department, and Earl Township Volunteer Fire Company who all successfully navigated the course.
Thank you to Upper Providence Township Department of Fire & Emergency Services for the use of their cones for the day and to Spring-Ford Area School District allowing the course to be setup in their parking lot next to the 9th Grade Center.
